I think what you need is a better grasp on variables, literals and expressions. I would suggest reading the section on Variables and Expressions for a better understanding of what @mikeyww gave you. While everything he did could have been done with literals, his use of variables made the code more compact and easier to modify. Understanding variables is a key fundamental in your progression to learning to code.
